CEnCAL DOula Benefits 

Free Pregnancy, Birth & Postpartum Support for Medi-Cal Members in Santa Barbara & San Luis Obispo Counties

If you're a CenCal Health member, you may be eligible for free doula support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.This benefit is available to Medi-Cal members in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. At Melancentric, we are proud to be a contracted doula provider with CenCal Health, offering compassionate, culturally aligned care to support you throughout your journey.​

What Does CenCal Cover?

As of January 1, 2023, CenCal Health covers the following doula services:

  • One initial 90-minute prenatal visit

  • Up to eight additional 1-hour prenatal or postpartum visits

  • Continuous support during labor and delivery

  • Support during miscarriage or abortion

  • Two extended 3-hour postpartum visits

  • Up to nine additional 1-hour postpartum visits (with a provider's recommendation)​

These services are designed to provide emotional, physical, and informational support, aiming to improve birth outcomes and enhance your overall experience.​

How to Access Doula Services

  1. Obtain a Recommendation: Request a recommendation for doula services from your licensed healthcare provider. This can be a physician, nurse practitioner, midwife, or behavioral health provider.​

  2. Submit the Recommendation: Your provider will complete the Doula Services Recommendation Form and submit it to CenCal Health. ​

  3. Authorization: Once approved, you'll receive confirmation, and you can begin scheduling services with a contracted doula provider like Melancentric.​
